Plans to give more powers to government, local authorities in Belarus

An inter-agency working group has been put together in Belarus to draft proposals on expanding the scope of authority of the government and local authorities. The decision was formalized by Resolution No.176p of the Belarusian premier as of 4 September 2020, BelTA learned from the press service of the government.

The working group was instructed to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the laws on the administrative division of the country, adoption of general plans, architectural and urban development activities, naming of administrative units, local heraldry, coordination of personnel decisions, number and structure of local executive and administrative bodies. The group will also analyze the laws on the seizure and allocation of land plots, management of state property, and other issues currently requiring the involvement of the head of state.

The working group is to come up with proposals to expand the powers of the government and local authorities.

The group will be led by First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov.
